Working under the ‘Swachhta Di Lehar’ campaign, city MLAs and Zonal Commissioners of the Municipal Corporation (MC) led cleanliness drives to clear and beautify garbage vulnerable points (GVP) in different parts of the city on Friday.

Cleanliness-cum-awareness drives were also organised to sensitise residents to the issue.

Atam Nagar MLA Kulwant Singh Sidhu and Ludhiana East MLA Daljit Singh Bhola Grewal led the cleanliness drives in their respective areas on Friday. Sidhu and MC Joint-cum-Zonal Commissioner (Zone D) Abhishek Sharma also led the drive to clear GVPs in the Model Town Extension area and a plantation drive was held for beautification of the sites. Earlier on Thursday, Joint-cum-Zonal Commissioner Chetan Bunger had also inspected cleanliness drives in areas falling under Zone A of the MC.

Another cleanliness-cum-awareness drive was conducted by Corporation Sanitation Officer (CSO) Ashwani Sahota among other officials in areas falling under Zone A. Residents were appealed to keep their surroundings clean and shun the use of plastic carry bags and single-use plastic items.

MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal said fortnight-long campaign ‘Swachhta Di Lehar’ had been commenced in the city on the directions of Local Bodies Minister Ravjot Singh. The civic body has prepared a schedule to cover all major roads, entry points to the city, marketplaces, religious places, parks, etc, across the city and officials had been directed to follow the same strictly. NGOs, educational institutes and residents should also be involved in cleanliness drives.
