State championship: Patiala cyclists reign supreme, bag 10 golds

Patiala cyclists proved their mettle by adding four gold medals to their kitty, clinching a total of 10 gold medals in addition to finishing at the second and third place in some other events in the two-day Punjab State Track and Field Cycling Championship organised by the Ludhiana District Cycling Association here at the Punjab Agricultural University velodrome.

On the second day of the championship, participants from Patiala continued their dominance as they won four out of eight titles. They won the top honours in 30km individual time trial event in the men’s elite group (U-23), 7.5km individual time trial in women’s junior section, 7.5km individual time trial for sub-junior girls and in the 7.5km individual time trial event in the men’s junior section.

MLA from Ludhiana West constituency Gurpreet Singh Gogi gave away the prizes to the winners. Senior cycling coach Satwinder Singh Vicky, organising secretary of the championship, congratulated the position holders and thanked the organising committee members on the successful completion of the state-level event.

Second day’s results

Men’s elite (U-23) 30km individual time trial: Ajaypal Singh (Patiala) first, Sahildeep Singh Heer (Gurdaspur) second and Simranjit Singh (Amritsar) third.

Women’s elite (U-23) 30km individual time trial: Mehak Gupta (Amritsar) first, Priyanka (Punjab Police) second and Rajbir Kaur (Punjab Police) third.

Men’s junior 7.5km individual time trial: Yuvraj Singh (Patiala) first, Gurasees Singh (Ludhiana) second and Birpartap Singh (Amritsar) third.

Women’s junior 7.5km individual time trial: Yaadvi (Patiala) first, Damanpreet Kaur (Amritsar) second and Arshpreet Kaur (Amritsar) third.

Sub-junior boys’ 7.5km individual time trial: Dhruv Kaushik (Amritsar) first, Karmanpreet Singh (Patiala) second and Gurtaran Singh (Patiala) third.

Sub-junior girls’ 7.5km individual time trial: Prabhjot Kaur (Patiala) first, Nisha Kumari (Ludhiana) second and Japnoor Kaur (Amritsar) third.

Youth boys’ 7.5km individual time trial: Gagandeep Singh (Amritsar) first, Kamaljeet Singh Shahi (Patiala) second and Karanveer Singh Mann (Barnala) third.

Youth girls’ 7.5km individual time trial: Preeti (Ludhiana) first, Palakpreet Kaur (Amritsar) second and Guntas Sandhu (Patiala) third.
