Ludhiana: Specialist doctors to be appointed on contract basis
Ludhiana, July 5
The appointment of specialist doctors in the government sector seems to be getting longer yet again as the authorities have invited applications for the appointment of specialist doctors on a contract basis under the National Health Mission.
Applications have been invited for 170 posts for specialist doctors which include 46 posts of paediatrician, 31 of medicine specialist, 37 of gynaecologist, 15 each of radiologist and anesthesiologist, five of psychiatrist, nine of surgeon and nine of skin, three of chest and TB specialists. The contract will be for one year.
No recruitment has been done in the department since 2020. Though Health Minister Balbir Singh announced to fill vacant posts of specialist doctor, no regular appointments have been done as of now.
A specialist doctor from the government sector said the department desperately needs more doctors for the smooth functioning of hospitals.
“The appointment of regular doctors is our long-pending demand but the government has failed to do the same so far. Hiring on a contract basis will not serve the purpose,” he said.
