Skill development need of the hour: Punjab Agricultural University
Syngenta Foundation India, Pune, sponsored a training programme on ‘Skill Development of Rural Youths’. The programme concluded at the Skill Development Centre, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU). Conducted under the guidance of Dr MS Bhullar, Director of Extension Education, the training witnessed the participation of 20 rural youths from different districts of Punjab.
In his concluding address, chief guest Dr Bhullar urged the youth to remain rooted in their profession of agriculture, which has made notable contribution to the food security of the nation. Observing that Punjabi youths could carve a niche in agriculture, Dr Bhullar raised serious concerns over rising costs of living and unemployment in foreign lands, jeopardising the future prospects of several youths and putting their entire life at stake. He advised the youths to benefit from this training for long-term financial well-being of their families.
Prashant Hazare, an official from Syngenta Foundation India, informed that the training programme was second in the series and that in future also, the company would lay specific emphasis on honing skills of the younger farmers to motivate them to make agriculture a thriving business.
Dr Rupinder Kaur, Associate Director (Skill Development), observed that skill enhancement was the need of the hour in view of increasing unemployment and decreasing farm income.
