It’s been more than a year that tenders of six parking lots in the city had expired but the Municipal Corporation (MC) is yet to reauction the lots. Current tenders are being extended from November last year. Initially, three-month extension period was given but it was later extended.

The lots which are awaiting auction are the Sarabha Nagar market, Bhadaur House, Feroze Gandhi market, BRS Nagar market, Model Town Extension and Multi-storey parking at Zone A.

Residents have been complaining of rude behaviour and overcharging by employees working at the lots. Seeing a

drop in the number of

customers due to the rude behaviour of the employees, market associations had also volunteered to take up the charge of the the parking areas.

Parminder Kaur, a senior citizen of Sarabha Nagar, said she had been visiting the market in the area since it was constructed. There was no parking fee but for the past few years, the Municipal Corporation had started collecting fee, which seems unjust.

Tushar Ghai, who often visits the BRS market, said for the past some time, parking fee was not being collected but now again, the employees were present at the parking lot to collect the same.

“The behaviour of the parking employees is rude and they often indulge

in arguments with the people visiting the market,” he rued.

A shopkeeper from the Model Town Extension area said the market association should be given the charge of the parking lots and they should be allowed to manage the parking space.

MLA Gurpreet Gogi said the civic body was in the process of reallotting the parking lots and it would be done soon.

“We will be e-auctioning the lots and present contractors would be served notice regarding the same soon,” he said.
