Ludhiana, September 2
Department of Community Medicine of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in collaboration with Jesus Sacred Heart School organised an awareness session on drug abuse and vaping today for students of classes XI and XII.
The aim of conducting the awareness session was to combat the growing menace of substance abuse and use of vapes among the youth and to provide information about the associated risks.
The programme was conducted by Dr Anurag Chaudhary, Professor and Head Department of Community Medicine, and Dr Vikram Gupta, Professor of Community Medicine. They provided insights into the physical and mental health hazards posed by drug use and vaping.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chaudhary said substance abuse and vaping were serious threats to the youth, and it’s crucial that society addressed the issues by providing appropriate information. Further, she highlighted education and awareness were the best tools to prevent the spread of these dangerous habits.
The event also included various audio visual aids which were presented by Dr Vikram Gupta, Professor of Community Medicine, to demonstrate the harmful chemicals released during vaping and their impact on lung tissue and general health. Further, the professor highlighted that vaping was often marketed as a safer alternative to smoking, but that it was a dangerous misconception.
