Sewermen, Safai Karamchari Sangharsh Committee continued its protest and chain hunger strike today. Members of the committee locked the main gate of the Municipal Corporation’s Zone A office, near Mata Rani Chowk. Nobody was allowed to go inside or outside the office.

The protesters locked the main gate around 8:55 am and it remained locked till around 10:30 am. They raised slogans against the government and the MC. Later, MLA Gurpreet Gogi reached the spot and talked to the protesters.

Additional Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal also reached the site. The gate was unlocked later. Meanwhile, visitors and MC staff faced inconvenience due to the locked gate.

The protesters were demanding regularisation of jobs of contractual sewermen, safai karamcharis and other employees of the MC.

Gogi said he would meet the Local Bodies Minister regarding the demands of the committee members. Gogi said when he came to know that the MC office gate was locked, he reached the spot and talked to officials of the Local Bodies Department regarding their demands. He assured them that their issues would be resolved.
