Police officials said on September 15, Mangal Singh was going towards Ludhiana from the Hambran side. When he stopped his motorcycle to attend a phone call, six robbers came on three motorcycles and cornered him. They looted a mobile phone and Rs 3,000 in cash from the victim. When the police started a probe into the case, the suspects were identified. After getting a tip-off regarding their location, the police erected a naka at a strategic point where the bike-borne miscreants were signalled to stop for checking. The suspects tried to flee but the police team managed to chase them. While fleeing the scene, two of them fell off their vehicles and suffered injuries.

During preliminary questioning, they confessed that they had committed several snatching and loot incidents in Ludhiana in the recent past. They usually threaten to kill victims by pointing sharp weapons at them and loot valuables, they said.
