Residents anxious as video of ‘leopard’ goes viral
Video of a ‘leopard’ sighted near Jargari village has gone viral on social media, making residents anxious.
The wildlife authorities have, however, assured the residents that the quadruped in the video was not a leopard, but a cat that posed no threat.
The authorities said surveillance to ascertain the presence of leopard or any other harmful animal had already been increased.
Area residents were anxious after watching a video in which a wild animal is seen strolling on a link road near Jargari village last evening.
Social activist Avtar Singh Jargari said farmers and farm labourers including women were scared of visiting fields on the outskirts of the village after the video went viral.
“We had informed the authorities about presence of a ‘leopard’ in the area. However, instead of calling teams to catch the animal they told us it was a cat and was not harmful to humans,” Singh said. Residents said the ‘leopard’ had also killed some animals and peacocks over the past few days.
