Ludhiana, August 26
Rains have exposed the poor condition of roads throughout the city. Roads have developed potholes and the upper layer of the road has been damaged.
The bad condition of roads in many city areas after a few spells of rain is worrying commuters. Motorists have been experiencing bumpy rides due to huge potholes.
Roads in posh areas and interior parts of the city have been affected by rainfall. Many stretches in BRS Nagar, Sarabha Nagar, Haibowal, Inderprasth Nagar, Kartar Avenue, Civil Lines and Feroze Gandhi market are in a vulnerable condition.
The road that passes in front of the Municipal Corporation’s Zone D office is also in bad shape and rainfall has worsen the situation. Water supply lines were laid and the road dug up for the same was not repaired.
“MC officials must be commuting to their office through the road but they failed to notice it’s pathetic condition. What will be the condition of other roads if the MC itself cannot notice the broken road in front of its office,” said Shamsher Singh, a resident of Sarabha Nagar.
Feroze Gandhi market is one of the major commercial hubs of the city but the main road leading to the market is in a deplorable state. The Stock Exchange and banks are located on the road and numerous vehicles pass through the stretch the whole day.
Roads of Kartar Avenue and Inderprasth Nagar are also in a bad state.
“The condition of the road in the area has worsened after the recent rains. It really becomes difficult to commute on road at night as one fails to navigate potholes due to darkness,” said Jyoti, a resident of Inderprasth Nagar.
Another resident from Kartar Avenue in Haibowal Kalan complained of bad condition of roads. “Though Ludhiana has received moderate rainfall this monsoon, it has exposed the claims of the Municipal Corporation,” he said.
