Punjab Agricultural University Teachers Association continues protest during mela
The Punjab Agricultural University Teachers Association (PAUTA), continuing their protest on the 24th day, staged a dharna followed by a rally on the first day of the Kisan Mela at the PAU here today. The teachers carrying placards displaying their demands marched on the campus during the mela.
The teachers are protesting against the allegedly indifferent attitude of the PAU authorities and the state government as the university continues to be the only one where the staff had failed to receive revised house rent allowance, medical allowance, city compensatory allowance and gratuity.
Dr Mandeep Singh Gill, president of PAUTA, said: “We have requested and appealed to the government and the university, but to no avail. Left with no other option, we protested during the mela so that people come to know about our issues.”
Taking note of the protest, the chief guest, minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian, approached the teachers. After accepting their memorandum, the association was assured by the minister that he would hold a meeting with them along with the university authorities.
