Police attach smugglers’ properties worth Rs 6.96 crore

The Ludhiana police on Friday attached properties worth Rs 6.96 crore of drug smugglers. Police personnel put up notices regarding the same on the seized properties.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Kuldeep Singh Chahal in a statement issued stated that the Dehlon police had arrested three smugglers in January and 10 quintals of poppy husk were recovered from them. The suspects were identified as Hoshiar Singh of Jodhan, Mukesh Kumar of Patiala and Jammu Singh of Jodhan.
He said during the investigation, the police had found that the suspects had bought the properties worth 5.34 crores with proceeds of drug money. The properties were identified and the matter was sent for approval to the competent authority. On Friday, after receiving orders of the property attachment, the police officials pasted property attachment notices on their properties. The attached properties include a residential-cum-commercial showroom and two houses.
The CP said the police had already freezed property worth several crores of drug smugglers in the recent past and many such cases were under process and soon, the competent authority might issue notices of property attachment.
The police also freezed assets worth Rs 1.62 crore of a drug smuggler at Balmiki Ghati. The police had arrested Anil with 260 gm of heroin in 2023. The freezed property included a house at Balmiki Ghati worth Rs 1.56 crore and a Honda City car worth Rs 6.10 lakh.— TNS
