The Khanna police have solved the murder case of Tarlochan Singh, coordinator, AAP Kisan Wing, in less than three hours with the arrest of Ranjeet Singh, who was nursing a grudge against the deceased for the past six years.

On September 9, Tarlochan’s body was found lying in a pool of blood on the outskirts of Ikolaha village at around 6 pm.

IGP (Ludhiana Range) Dhanpreet Kaur said they had recovered a licensed revolver, which had been used to commit the crime, and a mobile phone from the accused. She pointed out that Ranjeet also belonged to Ikolaha village.

The IGP said the police force from the entire district was mobilised within minutes of the crime and after connecting the dots through technical analysis, the accused was nabbed within a few hours.

Khanna SSP Ashwini Gotyal said, “Preliminary investigation revealed that the murder is a fallout of a personal enmity. In 2019, Tarlochan and his aides had tossed the turban and pulled beard of Ranjeet during a scuffle.” Though names of Jatinder, alias Tajinder, and Kulwinder Singh of Ikolaha village had been added in the FIR on the complaint of the deceased’s son Harpreet Singh, their role in the crime needs to be probed thoroughly.

Sources said political rivalry was also one of the reasons behind the murder as Tarlochan was preparing to contest the panchayat poll and the accused were associated with the opposition parties.
