PAU’s inter-college fest begins with display of artistic spirit
Punjab Agricultural University’s (PAU) Inter-College Youth Festival began on Monday with competitions in fine arts at the Students’ Home. PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Satbir Singh Gosal inaugurated the event.
In his address, Dr Gosal encouraged students to engage in sports, artistic activities, and academic studies, emphasising the importance of discipline and creative pursuits for overall personality development. He motivated participants to embrace a spirit of sportsmanship beyond winning and losing and praised the students’ artistic interests as a testament to the university’s rich cultural heritage.
Director of Student Welfare, Dr Nirmal Jaura outlined the schedule of events, stating that fine arts competitions would be held from November 11 to 16. The main opening ceremony of the Youth Festival will take place at Dr AS Khaira Open Air Theatre on November 19, with the award ceremony scheduled for November 21.
On the festival’s first day, competitions were held in poetry recitation, humorous poetry (Haas Ras), poster-making, clay modelling and doodling.
In poetry recitation, Harmanjot Singh from the College of Agriculture secured the first place, Jasmine Kaur from the College of Community Science placed second and Tasmeen Kaur from the College of Basic Sciences claimed the third place. Arman Sood from the College of Horticulture won first prize in the humorous poetry category, Anupreet Kaur from the College of Community Science took second, and Navnoor Kaur from the College of Basic Sciences came in third. On the second day of the youth festival, photography, collage-making, creative writing, cartooning and rangoli competitions will take place.
