Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev celebrated with fervour

The 555th Parkash Purb of Guru Nanak Dev — first Guru of the Sikhs — was celebrated with religious fervour all over the city. Not just the Sikhs, people belonging to different faiths and caste communities came to gurdwaras to pay obeisance.

Thousands of devotees visited the gurdwaras in the city including Gurdwara Dukh Niwaran Sahib, Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar, Alamgir, Model Town, Mai Nand Kaur Gurdwara, Ghumar Mandi etc and prayed for the welfare of mankind. The devotees were seen making a beeline for kar sewa and langar sewa. Starting from small kids to elderly devotees, langar sewa was performed by turn to seek the blessings of the Guru.

Serpentine queues of vehicles were witnessed outside Gurdwara Sarabha Nagar and barricades were put up on both sides because of which vehicles had to be parked a few yards away from the gurdwara. Devotees had to wait for their turn to pay obeisance inside the gurdwara due to huge rush.

“It is the faith of the people that brings them here. Hindus, Sikhs and Christians, people from different religions visit here to seek the blessings of the Almighty. They do kar sewa, langar sewa and this goes on throughout the day,” said Barinder Kaur, a devotee who regularly visits the gurdwara. She added that people sit for two to three hours to listen to the melodious Gurbani rendered by Ragi Jathas.
