OPD services remain suspended for second day on Friday
The complete suspension of OPD by Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS) doctors continued for the second day on Friday. The OPD wore a deserted look, with only few patients coming in and out of the OPD area. The medical services have been suspended at the District Hospitals, Sub-Divisional Hospitals and Community Health Centres.

On an average, 2,000 patients visit the Civil Hospital’s OPD every day as the hospital caters to the entire district. Patients are now being asked to visit Aam Aadmi Clinics. There are 94 such clinics in the district.
Senior citizen Harvinder Singh from Kakowal road had come to the hospital for getting medicines for diabetes. “Upon reaching here, I was told to go to the nearby Aam Aadmi Clinic or come on Saturday,” he said.
Another patient Roopa from Haibowal had come to get medicine, for which she needed a stamp from the doctor on her OPD slip. “I came on Thursday also and had to return. Today also no doctor is on duty,” she said.
Gagan, who had to undergo medical examination for arms licence, said, “Although there is no emergency and I can wait, but patients are having a difficult time,” he said.
Dr Akhil Sareen, president of the Punjab Civil Medical Services Association, said they had conveyed to the government that until their demands pertaining to security arrangements were accepted, the indefinite suspension of services would continue.
