Ohio State varsity scientist visits PAU, meets V-C

Dr Vinayak Shedekar, Assistant Professor (Agricultural Water Management) and director, Overholt Drainage Education and Research Program, College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, The Ohio State University, Columbus, visited Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to deliver a talk on ‘Agricultural Water Management’ at the Department of Soil and Water Engineering, PAU.

Dr Shedekar also held a meeting with Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, vice-chancellor, PAU, to deliberate upon the possible collaborative areas between the OSU and the agri varsity. During his discussion, he emphasised strengthening the existing collaboration of OSU with PAU and working jointly on researchable issues in the area of agricultural water management, particularly agricultural drainage and soil health. He also explored possible opportunities for the graduate and postgraduate students at OSU.

Dr JP Singh, professor-cum-head of the department, highlighted the work conducted by the Department of Soil and Water Engineering in the area of agricultural drainage for the reclamation of salt-affected waterlogged areas in the south-western districts of Punjab. The programme was attended by the faculty and students of the departments of Soil Science, Soil Water and Engineering (SWE), and Agronomy. Dr Vinayak also visited the Department of Agronomy, where Dr AS Brar showed various water management initiatives taken under DST-funded project.
