The president of the association, Surjeet Singh, said that over 10,000 Sikhs were killed in the riots. After over four decades, the Congress leaders responsible for the riots, were not punished by the law and many were still roaming free, he added. The president asked the state government to intervene and send a letter to the Prime Minister and Home Minister to arrest the culprits and punish them as the Sikhs in almost 110 cities were affected.

The president of the women’s wing of the association, Gurdeep Kaur, said 25,000 families of Sikhs had come to Punjab to save their lives in 1984. “The affected families were yet not provided the benefits as directed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The state government had cancelled 135 red cards. These should be considered again and all the benefits should be provided.
