Punjab girls and boys emerged the champions in the 32nd edition of Junior National Baseball Championship, held from October 2 to 6 at Akal College ground, Mastuana Sahib in Sangrur district.

In the girls’ section, Punjab scrambled past Delhi 1-0 to clinch the title. The all-important run was scored by Sharanjit Kaur. Maharashtra and Haryana shared the third position as both the teams were tied at nine-all at the end of match after five innings.

In the boys’ category, Punjab edged out Delhi 12-8 to wrap up the title. For the winning side, Mantekvir Singh, Shivam, Navdeep, Akash and Dheeraj chipped in with two runs each. In the match for the hard-line cup, Haryana beat Chandigarh 4-0 to secure the third position.

Mantekvir Singh and Saharnjit Kaur of Punjab were declared the best players of the tournament. Arvinder Kumar and Ashoke, vice-president and joint secretary, respectively, of Amateur Baseball Federation of India distributed the prizes.

Sukhdev Singh Aulakh and Harbir Singh Gill, president and secretary, respectively, Punjab Baseball Association, congratulated the players on the achievement.
