MLA’s ‘estranged’ wife accuses NRI landlord of harassment, probe launched
Raikot, August 22
The Ludhiana (Rural) Police have initiated a probe into an FIR registered at Sudhar police station against an NRI for allegedly harassing the ‘estranged’ wife of an AAP MLA — not a legislator from Ludhiana, over a month ago.
The victim of Saholi village is presently staying as a caretaker at a house owned by NRI Nachhatar Singh who used to serve in the Indian Air Force and Punjab State Power Corporation Limited before settling in Mississauga in Canada.
She has accused the suspect of trying to exploit her modesty when she was alone at home on July 13. She informed the police that she had video recordings to prove her allegations, which she would present during investigation.
The defendant, Nachhatar Singh, who had visited India about eight weeks ago, refuted the charges levelled against him and alleged the complainant was trying to grab his property in conspiracy with her accomplices.
“We had handed over our kothi to the complainant about two years ago and came to know, six months ago, that she had prepared some fake documents in her favour. I have met several senior police officers and higher authorities including the Chief Minister to seek justice, but to no avail,” said Nachhatar who had also threatened the administration of self-immolation in case justice was not served.
Confirming registration of an FIR against Nachhatar on the basis of a statement submitted by a woman claiming to be wife of an AAP legislator, Ludhiana (Rural) SSP Avneet Singh Bains said further action would be taken after verifying allegations levelled by the complainant.
A perusal of the FIR revealed that the complainant had been staying at the suspect’s house as a caretaker since October 22. The suspect was fighting a property case with his nephew so he had given a power of attorney to the complainant as he (suspect) used to stay in India for about only six months in a year. In her complaint the woman accused the suspect of ‘crossing all limits’ on the fateful day.
