The Municipal Corporation (MC) launched a massive cleanliness drive, ‘Swachhta Di Lehar’, across the city on Thursday.

Municipal Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal has issued a schedule for taking up the fortnight-long drive across the city. Major roads, entry points to the city, markets etc would be covered under the drive and a daily report submitted to the Local Bodies Department.

Dachalwal has ordered senior officials including Joint Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner among others to conduct surprise inspection and monitor the drive on a regular basis.

Joint MC Commissioner Chetan Bunger inspected the ongoing cleanliness drive in different areas of the city on Thursday.

Nodal Officer for the cleanliness drive, Joint Commissioner Ankur Mahindroo said that the schedule has been prepared to cover all major roads, entry points to the city, market places, religious places, parks etc and the staff have been directed to follow it strictly.

Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVP) points would also be removed from internal parts of the city. Plastic plogging drives would be conducted along with cleanliness drives around government hospitals, educational institutes, vegetable markets, grain markets etc. The sanitation staff would be felicitated with appreciation certificates.

The MC Commissioner said that senior officials in the Local Bodies Department would also be monitoring the drive and a daily report would be sent to the headquarters in this regard. Local Modies Minister Dr Ravjot Singh can also conduct surprise inspection during the cleanliness drive.

Senior civic body officials have been directed to monitor the drive on a regular basis and tolerate no laxity, Dachalwal said, adding that he too would be conducting surprise inspection in the coming days.

Dachalwal further appealed to the NGOs/residents to participate in the cleanliness drive and support the authorities in keeping the city clean and green. He appealed to the residents to stop dumping waste in vacant plots/spaces.
