“The Chief Minister is camping in Jalandhar for the by-poll while criminals run amok with impunity and can take anyone’s life at will”.

It was stated by Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar as he visited critically injured Shiv Sena leader Sandeep Thapar at the DMCH here. He expressed deep concern over what he termed as the abysmal law and order situation in the state.

Jakhar said CM Bhagwant Mann’s callousness was making Punjab bleed with an unabated wave of violence and hate crimes.

He targeted Mann for allegedly pushing Punjab towards a state of anarchy. Speaking to mediapersons after visiting Thapar, Jakhar said law and order should be the top priority for any government, but the CM’s ineptness and casual attitude is making the state go down the path of uncontrolled violence. The state’s crime graph must worry any person, but Mann is not bothered at all, he lamented. Punjabis can’t be allowed to live in this atmosphere of constant fear, said Jakhar, adding that if the state government thought it was unable to restore law and order it must accept the same and ask the Centre for assistance.

The Centre, Jakhar underlined, would take all necessary measures to enable the rule of law. Demanding swift action into the brutal attack on Thapar yesterday, Jakhar said the pattern emerging in these types of crimes in Punjab in the past few months demanded urgent attention. “First it was the fatal attack on Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in Amritsar, then on Prabhakar at Nangal and now this. However, the government is only interested in making ‘Rangla Punjab’ through fake advertisements,” Jakhar rued. No one is safe in the state, except the CM’s family which travelled with a posse of security men at cost of public exchequer, he added.

Jakhar said: “At a societal level, all must understand that taking law in one’s hand would only lead us to chaos.” Cautioning the CM, he said it was high time the government should act before the situation turns into an uncontrollable mess.
