The Court of Additional Sessions Judge Saru Mehta Kaushik has sentenced Gurdeep Singh, alias Saggu, a resident of Majri village, Dakha to rigorous life imprisonment for killing a man on suspicion of mobile phone theft. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the convict.

The incident took place on November 16, 2021, when Gurdeep Singh attacked Dhana Singh with a wooden baton at his residence in Majri village. According to the prosecution, the attack stemmed from Gurdeep’s suspicion that Dhana Singh had stolen his mobile phone. Despite medical efforts, Dhana succumbed to his injuries.

The case came to light when Bhag Singh, brother of the deceased, reported the incident to the police. In his statement to Inspector Jatinder Singh on November 17, 2021, Bhag Singh stated that Dhana went with Gurdeep on his motorcycle for some work at Swaddikalan village. When his brother did not return, he, along with his sister Charanjit Kaur, went to the house of accused.
