The Court of Harpreet Kaur Randhawa, Sessions Judge, Ludhiana, has sentenced Manga Singh, alias Mangal Singh, a resident of Badbar village, Barnala, at present residing in Mandi Mullanpur, Ludhiana, to rigorous life imprisonment on the charges of killing his colleague Parkash.

Delivering the verdict, the court held that the prosecution had successfully proved the guilt of the accused. The plea of leniency raised by him was also declined. He was also fined Rs 20,000.

According to the prosecution, the case unfolded on May 23, 2020, when SI Jarnail Singh, along with his police team, was on a regular patrolling duty at the main chowk in Mandi Mullanpur. At that time, Harinder Singh, a resident of Mullanpur Dakha village, lodged a complaint with the police and recorded his statement. Then a case against the accused was registered at the Dakha police station on the same day.

The complainant had stated to the police that Parkash, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, and Manga were employed with him. On the night of May 22, 2020, he along with his friend Ravinder Singh, went to the workplace to serve food to workers. When they reached the place, the accused was hitting Parkash on the head with a stick while hurling abuses at him. When the complainant and his friend attempted to intervene, the accused fled the scene with his weapon. Unfortunately, Parkash collapsed and died on the spot. The reason behind the attack was a dispute between the victim and Manga over some work-related issues.

However, the accused denied the charges. But after appreciating the evidence on record, the court found him guilty.
