Ludhiana: Jilted lover kills NRI woman’s father for rejecting his marriage proposal

After an NRI woman, staying in Australia, rejected the marriage proposal of a man, the latter killed her father and threw the body in the bushes in the Dakha area. He also called the woman, who is married, and confessed to having killed her father.
The Dakha police yesterday registered a case against the key suspect, identified as Ranjeet Singh Kahlon, a resident of Bath Kalan, Nakodar, and his nephew Gulli, a resident of Dakha. Later, Gulli was arrested by the police.
The suspect also expressed apology for committing the murder to the woman, who is married, when he called her later. He even shared the location where he had dumped the body of the deceased.
He had reportedly strangled the old man with a rope and also caused other injuries to him.
Vikram, son of the deceased, said on August 26, his sister Kirandeep called from Australia and told him that their father’s number was not reachable and asked to enquire about it. He went to his father’s house but he was not found there. Even his car was also not there. As he started searching for him, he found his father’s car near a petrol station in Dugri. On August 27, he lodged a missing complaint at the Dugri police station.
On the night of August 28, he came to know that the body of some elderly man was lying on the GT Road at Pandori village near Mullanpur Dakha. The next morning, he went to Civil Hospital, Ludhiana, with his friend Vinod Kumar and identified his father’s body. Afterwards, he informed his sister about the incident, he said.
Kirandeep Kaur told her brother that she met Ranjeet Singh Kohli, alias Ranjeet Bath, on Tik-Tok, a mobile application. He wanted to marry her but she told him that she wanted to know him before marriage. In March 2024, Ranjeet went to Australia to meet her.
Kirandeep said they used to meet each other often. Ranjeet used to drink a lot, due to which he used to come outside her house and abuse her.
“Ranjeet was pressuring his sister Kirandeep to divorce her husband and marry him. He had also threatened her that if she did not divorce her husband, he would kill her or her family members. After the threat, she called the police and also filed a case against him in Australia. Acting on the complaint of my sister, the Australian Government sent him to India in June this year. The suspect went to Australia again in 2024 but was arrested by the police from the airport and sent back to India,” the deceased’s son said.
Meanwhile, Kirandeep also told her brother that on the night of August 25, Ranjeet and his nephew Gulli went to meet her father, who was residing alone in a house in Dugri, here. They killed him and then dumped the body in the bushes on GT Road at Pandori village. The suspect also informed the woman that after killing her father, his body was dumped on the GT Road.
The key suspect is yet to be arrested in the case.
