Ludhiana girls outclass Mohali in tennis

Ludhiana won its two matches in the girls U-14 section in lawn tennis being held at Harvest Tennis Academy campus courts, Jassowal Kular village on the second day during the 3rd edition of the Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan on Tuesday. These games are being organised by the Punjab Sports Department with the help of the district administration at different venues across the district.

At Jassowal, Ludhiana girls beat Mohali 2-0 and then recorded an identical (2-0) win over Kapurthala. Moga beat Faridkot 2-1 and Fazilka outplayed Fatehgarh Sahib 2-0. In the girls U-17 catgory, Rup Nagar beat Hoshiarpur 2-0, Jalandhar defeated Fatehgarh Sahib 2-0, Mohali beat Sangrur 2-0, Bathinda beat Moga 2-0, Patiala beat Rup Nagar 2-0 while in the girls U-21 section, Patiala beat Hoshiarpur 2-0, Kapurthala beat Moga 2-0 and Bathinda beat Moga 2-0.

At Government Girls Senior Secondary Model School Ground, Gill village, in baseball (boys U-14), Patiala got the better of Malerkotla 1-0, Ferozepur beat Patiala 2-0 and Ludhiana defeated Kapurthala 2-0 whereas in the boys U-17 group, Ferozepur beat Mansa 11-3 and in U-21 section, Moga trounced Sangrur 7-2, Patiala prevailed over Ferozepur 7-5, Ludhiana outnumbered Amritsar 7-4.

Jasdev Singh Sekhon, Assistant Commissioner, Municipal Corporation was the guest of honour at Gill village.

In athletics, at Guru Nanak Stadium, Himanshu Sharma of Rup Nagar clinched top position in shot put event for boys U-14 and he was followed by Rahulinder Singh of Sangrur and Ekamjot Singh of Amritsar at the second and third position, respectively. In long jump (boys U-21), Harmandeep Singh Fazilka, Vijay Kumar of Ludhiana and Gurvir Singh of Amritsar secured first, second and third position, respectively.
