Ludhiana Improvement Trust (LIT) employees staged a two-hour protest on Tuesday at their Feroze Gandhi Market office here, condemning the registration of FIRs against employees of the Jalandhar Improvement Trust (JIT). The protest, held across all Trusts in the state, aimed at highlighting the alleged injustice in filing FIRs without conducting proper investigation.
According to the LIT employees, the FIRs were registered based on a complaint by Jalandhar Improvement Trust Chairman Jagtar Sanghera, involving the trust’s former estate officer, officials and clerks in two cases related to incorrect registries from seven to eight years ago. The employees argued that direct FIRs should not be filed without probe, as it could set a dangerous precedent and make other officials vulnerable to unjust accusations.
The protesters demanded that the FIRs be cancelled and a thorough probe be conducted. They emphasised that if anyone was found guilty, action should be taken according to law. The LIT officials vowed to continue their daily two-hour protests till their demands were met.
The incident highlights concerns about corruption and accountability within the state’s improvement trusts.
