LBA players seal berth in league phase
Ludhiana district and Ludhiana Basketball Academy (LBA) players secured berths in the league phase of the men and women sections on the penultimate day of the 74th Senior Punjab Basketball Championship being organised in the memory of Arjuna awardee Gurdial Singh Malhi at Gureh village near Jagraon in the district on Wednesday.
In the men’s section, besides Ludhiana district and the LBA, Faridkot and Jalandhar districts too qualified for the league phase. In the women’s category, apart from the LBA and Ludhiana district, Sangrur and Kapurthala were the other two teams to complete the league line-up.
In qualifying matches of the men’s group played today, Ludhiana district outperformed Amritsar district 76-64, LBA outnumbered Bathinda district 48-21 and in the women’s section, Sangrur outclassed Gurdaspur 64-29.
Baba Lakha Singh of Nanaksar Kaleran was the chief guest on the occasion while Kuldeep Singh of Issewal from the USA was the guest of honour.
