Surinder Pal Sharma of Hoshiarpur won 100m sprint and was adjudged the fastest runner in the men’s above 70 years section on the opening day of the third edition of State-Level Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan being organised by the Punjab Sports Department in association with the district administration here today.

At Guru Nanak Stadium, Jasbir Singh Kalsi of Jalandhar and Ajaib Singh of Ludhiana secured the second and third position, respectively. In the 400m race, in the same age group, Sukhdev Singh (Fatehgarh Sahib), Baldev Singh (Ludhiana) and Nachhattar Singh, also of Ludhiana secured the first three positions.

In the men’s section (31-40 years), Rishi Kumar of Rupnagar came out victorious in the 10,000m race while Babit Mohan of Fatehgarh Sahib finished second and Sukhvir Singh of Sangrur had to content with the third position.

In the boys’ U-17 section, Ryan Hasthir of Jalandhar won the top position in the javelin throw event, Sangamdeep from Ferozepur secured the second spot while Navrajveer Singh of Mohali finished third. In long jump, Harman Singh of Mansa, Gurshan Singh of Tarn Taran and Sehajpal of Tarn Taran secured the top three positions.

In kick-boxing, at the multipurpose indoor hall, opposite Guru Nanak Stadium, in the boys’ U-14 section, Ekamveer Singh of Barnala emerged the winner in the light weight contact event in the below 28kg weight section while Harry of Jalandhar and Harjeet Singh of Muktsar finished second and third, respectively.

In the boys’ U-17 section (below 32kg), Amit (Jalandhar), Arman (Sangrur) and Atul Kumar of Muktsar clinched the first three positions.

Kuldeep Chugh, District Sports Officer, along with other officials of the Punjab Sports Department, supervised today’s competitions.

Competition in baseball is being held at the Government Girls Senior Secondary Smart School ground, Gill village near here. In the boys’ U-14 and 17 categories, teams from twelve districts are taking part.
