Dhruvika and Amaanat Sidhu secured the top positions in shot put and 100m race, respectively, in the girls’ U-17 group in the ongoing block-level games of the third edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan being organised by the Punjab Sports Department under the aegis of Sports and Youth Services, Punjab, at different venues across the district on Saturday.

Competitions in five blocks — Malout, Jagraon, Machhiwara, Pakhowal and municipal corporation — began today.

In the municipal corporation block, here at Guru Nanak Stadium, in shot put event for U-17 girls, Dhruvika came out triumphant while Jannat and Aneesa secured the second and third position, respectively, and in 100 m sprint, Amaanat was followed by Hanah Sarangal and Jaismeen Kaur at the second and third place, respectively.

In the girl’s U-21 section, Anmoldeep Kaur proved too good for her opponents and won gold medal in 100m race. Raunakpreet Kaur finished second and Dhriti Jain secured the third position.

In shot put (boys’ U 17), Anshpreet Singh, Bismanjot Singh and Aman finished first, second and third, respectively, while in volleyball (smashing) for U-21 girls, Guru Nanak Stadium team emerged winners and BVM School, Kitchlu Nagar branch, secured the second spot.

MLAs Kulwant Singh and Gurpreet Singh Gogi inaugurated the games while Kuldeep Chugh, District Sports Officer, was the guest of honour. The nodal officer of the district sports office, Sanjeev Sharma, and block conveners Parveen Thakur, Saloni, Arunjit Kaur, Gurjit Singh and Priya were also present.

At Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Sihar block, in kho-kho (girls’ U-14), Girls School, Sihar village, won the top position. The second and third positions were bagged by Government High School, Saharanmajra village, and GSSS, Ramgarh Sardaran teams, respectively.

At Jagraon block, competitions started at Bhambipura stadium wherein Shanti Devi of Mallah emerged the fastest runner in the girls’ U-17 category as she won the 100m dash. In shot put for U-17 boys, Ranjit Singh of Chhajawal won the first place.
