Khedan watan punjab diyan: Dehru girls win U-17 football title
Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS), Dehru village of Khanna block, proved their mettle by winning the title in the girls’ U-17 section in football in the ongoing block-level games of the third edition of Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan being organised by the Punjab Sports Department under the aegis of Sports and Youth Services, Punjab, at different venues across the district on Friday.
In the matches, played at Naresh Chander Stadium, Khanna, GB Sports Club of Rasoolra village and Delhi Public School, Khanna, secured the second and third position, respectively, while in the girls’ (U-14) section, GB Sports Club came out victorious, followed by GSSS, Dehru village.
In athletics events, held at Khanna, Simranjot Kaur, Mandeep Kaur and Angel Preet Kaur secured the first three position in 60m race for U-14 girls. In 600m race, Ravneet Kaur of AS Modern School, Khanna, romped home while Arshdeep Kaur of GSSS, Rasoolra village, followed her at the second place and Vani of AS Modern School finished third.
In girls’ U-17 kabaddi, Bhagat Puran, Rajewal, team clinched the title and Nankana Sahib Public School, Issru, finished as the runners-up while GSSS, Nasrali village, had to content with the third position.
At GHG Khalsa College ground, Gurusar Sudhar, Hardev Singh emerged the fastest runner, winning the 100m sprint in the men’s group (51-60 years) while Ranjit Singh secured the second position. In football (boys’ U-21), GHG Khalsa College beat Guru Hargobind Club, also of Sudhar, to annex the title while Jatindera Green Field School, Sudhar, finished as the second runners-up.
At Sidhwan Bet, in volleyball (smashing) for U-14 boys, GSSS, Gidharwindi village, stood first, Bassian Bet village team finished second and GSSS, Gidharwindi village, team B secured the third place.
The block-level competitions in five blocks — Malout, Jagraon, Machhiwara, Pakhowal and municipal corporation — will be held from September 7 to 9, according to a release issued by the District Sports Officer.
