Ranjodh Singh, a 57-year-old farmer from Ratanheri village in Khanna, allegedly tried to end his life by consuming sulphas at Shambhu border on Saturday.

Ranjodh took the extreme step as he reportedly distressed by the deteriorating health of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike in support of farmers’ demands.

Sukhdeep Singh, son of Ranjodh, said his father was present at the protest site and was deeply troubled by the deteriorating condition of Dallewal. Sukhdeep said his father was admitted to the ICU, where his condition was stated to stable.

Jagtar Singh, a villager, said Ranjodh had shared his plans to join the morcha with farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher before leaving for Shambhu border.
