Ludhiana, August 20

The second league match in Group B, played between Ludhiana and Faridkot in the ongoing Punjab State Inter-District Cricket Tournament for the Katoch Shield being organised by the Punjab Cricket Association, ended in a draw. The match was played on Monday and Tuesday at Faridkot.

Yesterday, Ludhiana, in their first innings, were bowled out for 225 runs in 50.2 overs and Faridkot, in their first essay, were 72 for two in 13.1 overs.

Today, resuming at the overnight score, Faridkot, powered by a fine batting display by Naman Dhir, Sahaj Dhawan and equally useful innings by Abjeet Singh Bhangu, surpassed Ludhiana’s total. Naman made 136, Sahaj scored 70 and Abjeet contributed 34 runs to Faridkot’s total of 268 runs, taking a lead of 43 runs.

For Ludhiana, Yogjit Singh Kalsi grabbed three wickets for 20 runs while Aradhya Shukla and Vaibhav Kalra secured a brace each after conceding 36 and 13 runs, respectively.

In the second innings, Ludhiana were 92 for five after 22 overs when it was called a day. Saksham Vij scored 37 runs and Tikshan Tangri made 23.

On the basis of the first innings lead, Faridkot got three points and Ludhiana had to content with one. Now, after two matches, Ludhiana, with just three points in their kitty, are placed at the fourth place in the Group B of five teams.

In the third match to be played on August 25 and 26 at Ropar, Ludhiana will clash with Ropar.
