Interstate cybercrime gang unearthed, 2 Assam residents arrested
With the arrest of two individuals from Guwahati, Assam, police claims to have unearthed an interstate cybercrime gang that duped leading businessman SP Oswal from the Vardhman Industries of Rs 7 crore.
According to the police, two accused Atnu Chaudhry and Anand Kunar Chaudhary, both residents of Guwahati, Assam, had been arrested and Rs 5.25 crore had been recovered from them. The police is on a hunt to arrest seven more individuals who were involved in committing the fraud.
This is the second major fraud committed against an industrialist in the past about 15-20 days. Earlier, a cybercrime gang had duped another renowned businessman, Rajneesh Ahuja, of Rs 1 crore.
According to information, the cyber criminals posed as CBI officials and sent fake arrest warrants against SP Oswal and asked him to deposit the amount in their accounts. Interestingly, the criminals were knew how influential Oswal was. They asked the industrialist to cooperate with them. By the time, Oswal realised that he had been duped, it was too late, and he brought it to the notice of the police.
The police swung into action and two arrests were made. The investigation revealed that seven more individuals, including a female, were also involved in the case. The police hunt is on and the remaining accused will be arrested soon. The police have recovered six ATMs and three mobile phones, besides Rs 5.25 crore from the arrested.
The sources maintained the criminals digitally arrested the targets for hours before duping them.
