Industry tycoons of Ludhiana, the industrial and financial capital of the state, on Thursday mourned the demise of Padma Vibhushan industry legend Ratan Tata, while remembering him as a “true visionary”, “icon”, and “leader par excellence”.

The chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, one of India’s largest conglomerates, died at a Mumbai hospital after a prolonged illness late on Wednesday evening. He was 86.

Punjab Industries Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sond, who is the MLA from Khanna, said the country had lost a “real ratan”. “Ratan Tata has made a special contribution to the strengthening of the country’s economy and the work done by him in various fields will always inspire the young generation. He will always remain in people’s minds for his simplicity, hard work and honesty. Ratan Tata’s love and compassion towards animals will always be remembered,” he said.

Rajya Sabha MP and business magnate Sanjeev Arora said: “A great light has dimmed today. A leader whose quiet strength and unwavering values transformed industries and uplifted countless lives has left us. His influence will resonate far beyond his time. Farewell to a true visionary.”

“In the demise of Ratan Tata, India has lost an icon who blended corporate growth with nation-building, and excellence with ethics. His legacy will inspire future generations of Indians to pursue success with integrity,” said Onkar Singh Pahwa, CMD, Avon Cycles.

Sidharth Khanna, Director, Arisudana Industries Limited, said: “Ratan Tata is widely regarded as a visionary leader and philanthropist who embodies the values of hard work, honesty and extraordinary vision. “For me, he was a true patriot and nationalist. He taught the real meaning of the CSR, much before the law. He always put people before anything else and will be remembered for generations,” said Amit Thapar of Ganga Acrowools Limited.

“Ratan Tata was indeed the perfect example of a leader, a global entrepreneur and a noble soul,” said Sanjeev Garg, MD, Garg Acrylic Limited.

Deepak Dumra, MD, Greatway Limited, said: “It is a sad day for India, we have lost a great man. A kind soul, a visionary, an industrialist and a genuine philanthropist. Usually such characteristics are not present in one man, but he truly was an exceptional human being.”

“Ratan Tata was an iconic personality and a true leader. He always talked of welfare of the nation,” said Upkar Singh Ahuja, president, Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU).

Gurpreet Singh, president, Garments Machinery Manufacturers and Suppliers Association (GMMSA), said, “The nation has suffered a great setback with the death of Ratan Tata. He was a great industrialist and a person dedicated to the nation and humanity. People will always remember the services rendered by him.”

“Ratan Tata’s extraordinary life was a shining example of leadership, innovation, and kindness. His legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched and the institutions he built. A model personality followed by millions, he will always be remembered,” said Pankaj Sharma, president, Association of Trade and Industrial Undertakings.
