GLADA razes four illegal colonies
Ludhiana, August 30
GLADA Chief Administrator Sandeep Rishi in a statement issued stated that a special drive was launched against unauthorised and illegal colonies on Friday to take punitive action against those who were fleecing innocent residents under the garb of offering cheaper plots in such colonies, which lacked statutory sanction and compliance with the government norms.
In compliance with demolition orders issued by Additional Chief Administrator, GLADA-cum-Competent Authority Ojasvi, against unauthorised colonies, the Duty Magistrate, police force and enforcement team of GLADA comprising District Town Planner (Regulatory), Assistant Town Planner (Regulatory), Sub- Divisional Engineers, GLADA, and Junior Engineers (Regulatory) demolished four unauthorised colonies today at Alamgir village in Ludhiana by dismantling their roads, boundary walls, passages, sewer manholes and under-construction illegal structures on these sites.
When developers did not stop illegal construction works despite serving them with notices, a team carried out the demolition drive, which went unopposed. In a move to check mushrooming of illegal colonies at the initial stage, GLADA is planning more such drives in upcoming weeks, said Sandeep Rishi.
The Chief Administrator, GLADA, appealed to the public to not to purchase property/plots/buildings in unauthorised colonies as GLADA would not provide any facility such as water supply, sewerage and electricity connections. The list of approved and regularised colonies, along with their sanctioned maps, is available on the official website of GLADA, which might be checked by prospective buyers before buying any property.
He said besides undertaking a demolition campaign, GLADA had also recommended to the tehsildars concerned for not registering plots in such unauthorised colonies. PSPCL was also told to not to issue electricity connections to them. FIRs had been filed against the developers of unauthorised colonies in Ludhiana district.
