Girl dies of strangulation

Ludhiana, August 10

An 11-year-old girl died at her residence in Model Town here on Friday. While enjoying a swing at her home, the victim’s scarf got stuck around her neck and she died due to suffocation.

The deceased was identified as Meenakshi. She was a student of Class IV, Guru Nanak Khalsa Senior Secondary School. Her younger sister and brother were at home during the incident.

Victim’s father Lakhanpal said they were natives of Uttarakhand. On Friday, he, along with his wife, had gone to the market. When they returned home, their daughter was lying on the ground. They took her to a hospital where the doctor declared her dead.

The police initiated inquest proceedings in the case.

The police said Meenakshi was the eldest of the three siblings. Her family said they had put a swing in the ceiling hook. While swinging, her scarf got stuck around her neck and she died of suffocation. — TNS
