Gang running illegal lottery racket busted, 3 arrested
The Ludhiana police claimed to have busted a gang running an illegal lottery business and arrested three of its members.
The suspects have been identified as Ram Dulare (52), a resident of Makkar Colony, Ranjit Kumar (32), a resident of the Daba road area, and Barjesh Pal, alias Monu (27), a resident of Kanganwal.
CIA-2 in-charge Inspector Rajesh Sharma said he, along with the police party, was patrolling in the Dhandari area, when he got a tip-off that the suspects, who were running an illegal lottery racket, had cheated many people on the pretext of doubling their money through gambling. They had been luring the victims by telling them that the lotteries they were selling were approved by the Punjab Government.
Sharma said the suspects had even taken a shop on rent on the Sua road from where they were running the racket. During a raid at the shop, the police also recovered Rs 8,200 in cash and some slips used in gambling.
A case under the Gambling Act was registered against the trio.
Meanwhile, CIA in-charge said the miscreants also had a criminal past as Ram was facing four cases of gambling and the other two suspects were also facing two cases each of gambling registered against them in the past. Despite facing many cases, they had been continuing the illegal trade.
