Gang-rape victim, supporters burn MLA’s effigy
A 13-year-old gang-rape victim and her mother, along with a number of supporters, burnt an effigy of a city-based MLA, alleging that the legislator has been supporting the rape suspect.
They also raised slogans against the MLA and the Police Department.
The victim’s mother alleged that a teenaged girl was gang-raped and following the incident, two suspects were arrested by the police.
She alleged that the crime was committed by four youths but the police took action against two of the suspects only. They had been meeting police officials to seek the registration of a case against the remaining two suspects but they were not paying any heed to them.
The girl’s’ mother alleged that the duo had also been issuing life threats to her.
“A local MLA has been supporting the suspects and due to his intervention, the police are not registering any case against the accused,” she alleged.
She said she, along with her daughter, had been holding protest outside the CP’s office for the past three days. On Friday, some persons, allegedly sent by supporters of the rape suspects, had attacked them and pelted stones at them. Though the police rounded up two women assailants, no strict action was taken against them.
