The Ludhiana police claimed to have arrested four members of an autorickshaw gang. The police recovered eight mobile phones, two sharp weapons and one auto-rickshaw from the suspects.

They were identified as Sunny Chauhan (24) of Basant Nagar, Manpreet Singh (24) of Basant Nagar, Sunny Verma (34) of New Azad Nagar and Prem Kumar (24) of Sherpur Kalan.

ADCP Dev Singh and ACP (South) Harjinder Singh issued a joint statement in this regard.

Police officials said the suspects used to pick up passengers and loot them by pointing sharp weapons at the latter. In the past few weeks, they had robbed around 12 passengers of cash and valuables. Now, police remand of the suspects would be sought from court so that in further interrogation, more recovery of looted valuables could be made.

Manpreet, Prem and Sunny Chauhan had a criminal past.

Meanwhile, the ADCP said the suspects were drug addicts and they had been looting cash and valuables from people to buy drugs. The police would also inquire if they had any connection with drug dealers. In further probe, the police would bust the entire gang.
