Farmers demand resumption of paddy procurement
A meeting of Samyukt Kisan Morcha was organised here today under the leadership of Harinder Singh.
During the meeting, a unanimous decision was taken according to which farmers would march to the CM House at Chandigarh on October 7 and ask the state government to resume the paddy procurement process. They said they would burn effigies representing the state government on Dussehra if the government failed to take necessary action.
Addressing the meeting, Harinder Singh said paddy produce was lying in the market; however, there were no buyers. He said the state government should start the procurement. He added sheller owners were on strike and the state government needed to listen to their grievances and resolve them as soon as possible. He said this should be done so the paddy procurement process could be resumed.
He said, “The time for sowing wheat is approaching, and there is a shortage of DAP fertiliser in the market, and the government should also easily make it available in the market.”
