Farmers’ body seeks pension for labourers above 60 years
Ludhiana, July 17
On the call given by Sanyukt Kisan Morcha, members of Bhartiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) today staged a protest dharna and handed over the demand charter to
MP Amrinder Singh Raja Warring through former MLA Kuldip Singh Vaid here today.
Union’s district president Charan Singh Noorpara said that that in 2020-2021, farmers protested against the farm laws and to have guaranteed Minimum Support Price. They lifted the dharna after they were assured of their demands being accepted but no concrete step was taken thereafter. Left with no other option, farmers once again marched towards the Delhi border in February.
The main demands of farmers include a legal guarantee to MSP on their produce, withdrawal of police cases against them during earlier protests, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, debt waivers and no hike in electricity tariff, he said.
In addition to this, their other demands include complete loan waiver of farmers, stop privatisation of the power sector, discontinue installation of prepaid electricity meters and subsidy on agriculture inputs should be started again.
“Farm workers above the age of 60 years should be given pension of Rs 10,000 per month and a memorial should be made in the memory of 736 farmers who lost their lives during Kissan Andolan,” he said.
