Farmers’ blockade affecting business, say industrialists

The Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) held an interactive session with political leaders and senior officials of Punjab at CICU complex today.

Prominent industrialists of the city attended the event and raised many issues being faced by them.

A major issue of the industrialists was of PSIEC (Punjab Small Industries & Export Corporation) due to which the plot holders were suffering. The industrialists, including Upkar Singh from CICU, Rajiv Jain from FICO, Charanjit Vishkarma from UCPMA, Rajnish Ahuja and SC Ralhan from Handtool Association, Mridula Jain and many others brought forth the problems being faced by the industry in Punjab.

The businessmen rued that the daily blockades by farmers had affected business manifold due to which the buyers were not coming and orders were cancelled. SC Ralhan showed an air ticket to government representatives saying that he could not reach because of the blockade of highways.

The industrialists said that their maps were not being cleared by the PSIEC and NOCs by many departments were not being given due to which the industry was suffering badly. The industrialists also requested the government not to increase the power tariff frequently and that the rates should be stable for two years so that production in units can be planned accordingly.

The issue of manufacturing plastic as per the guidelines was also raised on the occasion.

Punjab minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, DPS Kharbanda, CEO Invest Punjab and many others gave a patient hearing to the industrialists and assured that the problems would be resolved soon. They encouraged the industry to take advantage of the MSME schemes to get maximum benefits.
