Facing harassment after selling his ancestral land at Khanpur village in Ludhiana district, a non-resident Indian (NRI) staying in Canada, Sharandeep Singh, shot off a letter to the Chief Minister and the DGP, Punjab. He sought action against his stepsister for allegedly harassing the buyer also, to whom he sold the land.

The complainant, Sharandeep Singh, a citizen of Canada, in a video uploaded on social media from Canada said after the death of his mother, his stepsister had taken possession of all ancestral property. After he fought a court case, he managed to get back 39 kanal of land of his share and got registered the same in his name. In May, he sold the land to Jasvir Singh and the land registration was also done in the name of latter by the Revenue Department and its possession was given to the buyer as well.

“Now, whenever Jasvir, to whom I sold the land goes to plough the land, his stepsister creates a scene and would not let him do the work. Recently, a video showing the woman stopping the tractor of Jasvir from entering the land also went viral,” he said.

Meanwhile, the NRI said he sent a complaint to the Chief Minister and the DGP to seek immediate action against his stepsister. He requested that the government should check the revenue records of his land sold to Jasvir, which would prove his ownership. He also urged the Ludhiana police to take action on the complaint of Jasvir which he lodged with the police.

“If being an NRI I will continue to face harassment for selling my own land, I would prefer to sell my entire property in Punjab and would never return to the state again in the future. I hope the Chief Minister and the DGP would provide justice to me,” Sharandeep added.
