Drug traffickers’ property worth Rs12 crore forfeited in Malerkotla: SSP

To dismantle drug network in the district, the Malerkotla police have asked all personnel investigating NDPS cases to enhance coordination with revenue officials.

The instructions were issued during the concluding session of a march held by senior police personnel to spread awareness against social evils, including drugs.

The police said coordination among cops and revenue officials, besides facilitating identification of properties illegally purchased with drug money would act as a deterrent among petty criminals, including couriers of consignments and individuals sharing property with drug peddlers.

Malerkotla SSP Gagan Ajit Singh said DSPs and SHOs at Malerkotla, Ahmedgarh and Amargarh subdivisions had been advised to ensure that all personnel investigating cases registered against drug traffickers and smugglers were regularly coordinating with revenue officials to keep track of their financial activities.

The SSP appreciated that diligence of personnel investigating the NDPS cases had resulted in attachment of properties worth Rs 12 crore belonging to accused in 16 cases this year.

“While 20 attachment proposals worth Rs 14.71 crore were sent to the competent authorities in New Delhi this year, we have received orders in connection with 16 proposals for attachment of properties worth Rs 12 crore,” said the SSP, adding that the attachment orders had been pasted on all forfeited properties, which include houses, commercial and open land.

The SSP said he had discussed issues related with processing of proposals requesting attachment of properties acquired with unaccounted money earned by drug peddlers with Deputy Commissioner Pallavi, who assured to advise senior functionaries in the Revenue Department to extend every help to police personnel.
