District health board set up for healthcare staff

DC-led panel to ensure proper security, surveillance for medical employees

In the wake of increasing incidents of assault and threats to doctors and health professionals across the country, the district administration has established a district health board here.

To ensure safety and security of doctors and other healthcare staff at workplaces, the board will be led by Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney as its chairperson while Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Singh Chahal, SSPs concerned, Civil Surgeon and representatives of the Indian Medical Association and NGOs will be on the board as its members.

The DC said medical and paramedical workers were the back bone of the medical fraternity and the government was dedicated to their safety in hospitals and other medical facilities, addiung that the board would convene a monthly meeting to discuss and take steps to ensure the well-being of medical staff.

She also directed other board members to consistently oversee security measures for medical professionals, enabling them to perform their duties without any hindrance.

The board will ensure the presence of police personnel 24x7, regular surveillance, operation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, the norm of one family member per patient in hospitals, conducting of safety inspections, providing identity cards to all hospital employees, helpline 112 or control room 0161-2444193 for staff in any emergency and additional safety measures at healthcare facilities.
