Custodial death: CBI team recreates crime scene at Dugri police station

In a ‘2017 custodial death’ case in which Ramandeep Kaur (29) had died under mysterious circumstances at the Dugri police station whose body was found hanging inside the washroom of the police station, officials of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from Chandigarh today visited the Dugri police station for starting the investigation afresh into the case. The CBI sleuths were also accompanied by officials of the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), Chandigarh.
CBI Inspector Ramchander Mandhotra led the team, which arrived at the police station at 10.15 am on Friday.
As per sources, the CBI had recreated the entire incident inside the police station to get answers to the kinds of questions like how Ramandeep was found hanging inside the washroom, what circumstances led to the development, why cops present inside the police station failed to prevent suicide, was she tortured during interrogation, or something else led to the death of Ramandeep?
Mukul the fiancee of the deceased was also made part of the crime recreation scene because Mukul was present inside the police station when he was told by cops that his fiance had committed suicide and died.
Talking to The Tribune outside the Dugri police station, Mukul said, “My fiancee did not commit suicide, she was badly tortured by the cops during interrogation which led to her death. I have full faith in CBI probe and no guilty cop will be spared as all circumstancial evidence are against them. The CBI recreated the crime scene inside the police station and not only the four who are accused and facing FIR under Section 304A, IPC, were present rather other cops who were then present inside the police station were also called by the CBI for questioning and for recreating the crime scene. The CBI also did the videography of crime scene,” added Mukul. He said his fiancee was tortured and after she died, she was taken to the washroom for labeling it a suicide case.
