Four persons lost their lives and 69 more tested positive for Covid in the district today. The number of positive cases in Ludhiana has reached 1,839 and the death toll has gone to 47.

Of the four fatalities, two patients died on the way to the Civil Hospital. The deceased were a 41-year-old man from Lohara (died at Government Rajindra Hospital, Patiala), a 72-year-old woman from Janakpuri (an Oswal Hospital patient, she died on the way to Civil Hospital), a 55-year-old patient from Bhamian Road (breathed his last at Rajindra Hospital) and a 50-year-old resident of Islam Ganj, who died while being shifted to Civil Hospital from the DMCH.

Those who tested positive include a BJP leader from the city, a resident of Sunet and another of Focal Point, both had recently travelled to UP.

Eleven persons were found positive during contact tracing for a patient of Ram Nagar. Thirteen patients had influenza-like illness.

An associate director of a private hospital, three healthcare workers from Jassian, Basti Jodhewal and Issa Nagri were found infected.

The other cases belong to College Road, Country Homes, Rishi Nagar, SBS Nagar, Tagore Nagar, Dhandra Road, Baldev Nagar, Dholewal, BRS Nagar, Kundan Nagar, Chandar Nagar, South City, Abdallapur Basti, Jagraon, Tajpur Road, Mundian Kalan, Model Town Extension and Basant Avenue,

Awareness drive

Meanwhile, in order to check the spread of Covid 19, the Health Department is working on Sundays to make people aware about this pandemic. The mass education and media teams of Civil Surgeon Office, with their IEC (information, education and communication) vans, visited the thickly populated areas of the city to educate residents about the preventive guidelines issued by the state government.

The teams visited Jawahar Nagar Camp, Bhaibala Chowk, Kochhar Market and Pakhowal Road areas. To make the drive more effective, the teams took the help of the police who issued challans to violators.


FIR against groom, baraatis

The police of Division 2 caught 16 people taking part in a marriage at Gurdwara Bhaat Singh on Saturday as they were not wearing masks and the gathering was more than the permitted limit. The police registered a case against the groom, his family members and people attending the marriage. The gurdwara management was also booked.

“A special drive was carried out to check the violations of Covid guidelines. As many as 136 people were challaned for roaming on roads without mask and four were caught for not maintaining social distancing,” Said ADCP 1 Deepak Pareek. Several shops, namely Madaan Karyana Store, Amit Gift Palace, Jaggi Garments, Happy Garments, Uttam Sons and Vikas Disposal, were found open during the night hours in the jurisdiction of Division 2 police.
