Controlling Officer Chetan Bunger today instructed the poll officials to ensure free and fair conduct of the upcoming panchayat elections. The meeting was convened to issue instructions to the poll officials regarding the provisions of the model code of conduct and various other directions, issued by the state election commission for the smooth conduct of the elections. Bunger addressed the returning officers of all the seven clusters of Doraha along with the police officials of the area.

He asked the police officials to keep strict vigil. “No candidate or political party shall be allowed to take law in their hands and the process would be thoroughly transparent,” he added. He asked the candidates and political parties to strictly follow and abide by the poll code and cautioned that any violation would attract strict action against the defaulting candidate.

Elaborating on the poll code directions, Bunger asked the candidates and the political parties not to indulge in any activity which might obstruct the otherwise smooth conduct of elections. The candidates were also asked to refrain from other corrupt practices like offering bribes, threats to the voters, indulging in supplying liquor, etc, to the voters thus making it crystal clear that nobody would be allowed to create disturbance of any kind during the campaigning period and the conduct of polls.

He also appealed to the candidates and political parties to cooperate with the administration in holding free, fair and fearless elections in Doraha.

Bunger said voting would be held on October 15 and after counting, the results would be declared the same evening. He asked the voters, especially the first timers, to exercise their right to vote without any pressure respecting the norms and ethics of universal adult franchise.
