A case was registered against Kamaljit Singh Ladhar, president of the Khanna Municipal Council, JE Ajay Kumar Gabba, and contractor Pawan Kumar at the Khanna City police station 2 under Sections 409 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC, as well as Sections 13(1) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.

The complaint was filed by Charanjit Singh, Executive Officer of the Khanna Municipal Council, who alleged that a tender of Rs 4.20 lakh was issued for the construction of a street in Ward 25 but works worth only Rs 3.17 lakh was done. An investigation was conducted by the Khanna DSP and the suspects were found guilty of misappropriating funds.

During the investigation, the DSP summoned Municipal Council president Kamaljit Singh Ladhar and Congress Councillor Amandeep Kaur’s husband Ranveer Singh Kakka to record their statements.

Despite repeated summons, they failed to appear and the police registered a case after seeking legal advice from the District Attorney.

According to the FIR, councillor Parampreet Singh Pampi from Ward 16 had raised the issue with the authorities concerned, alleging that a scam had occurred in the construction of a street in Ward 25. The Executive Officer then conducted a probe and found that the street had not been constructed with interlocking tiles as claimed.
